Super Miners were added 24th of October 2022, as the main feature of version 0.40. Their building is located at depth 10, and so they are one of the first milestones.
Super Miners come from Ethereal (also called "Black") chests, in Common (35%), Uncommon (16.5%), Rare (7.5%) and Legendary (1%) rarities.
Ethereal chests can spawn (1/790 chance), be compressed from gold chests, or purchased in the shop with tickets (30 tickets each, this is seen by the community as a waste of tickets and definitely NOT recommended).
Each super miner can be leveled up with Super Miner Souls increasing their abilities. You can gain souls from scrapping super miners, from Ethereal chests and from scientists excavations.
Actions[]
Super Miners wander around your mines and perform many actions for you.
- Mining (mineral) - Increases miner speed at its depth by a %
- Mining (isotope) - Increases the number of isotopes mined on its depth by a %
- Buff - Every X minerals it mines it grants a buff.
- Drilling - Jumps on your drill and increases the mining speed by a %
- Seller - Automatically sells x amount of the selected mineral every second.
- Egg - Passively gains experience and levels up for free, increasing its scrap amount, (gaining you more super miner souls). Limited to a maximum of 4 eggs at the same time.
- Chest - Increases chest spawns on its current depth and 2 depths above and below.
- Deposit - Increases mineral deposit spawn chance by X and cap by Y.
- Booster - Increases the effect of the super miners it bumps into.
- Reward - grants a random reward every X minerals.
Costs[]
Slots[]
You can have several Super Miners at once. The first two slots are free, but you need to buy extra slots with Super Miner Souls. There is currently no limit to the number of Super Miners you may have at once. You can have more than one of the same type, just the same that you can have two copies of the same scientists.
If you get a new Super Miner, but you don't have an empty slot, the game will give you the chance to "make room", either by buying another slot or by scrapping an existing Super Miner. You can also scrap the new one, if needed. But that means that, at least at the beginning, saving enough Souls for an extra slot, if needed, is a prudent move.
here is the formula for the cost of each slot
round(((slot-1)^1.5)*log10(slot-1)*7)*5
the round function is "round to nearest integer"
(*though this table stops at 41, there is no limit for the amount of slots you can have, the only limiting factor is getting the miner souls)

Scrap[]
Super Miners can be scrapped for super miner souls. This depends on the miner's rarity. Upgrading a miner, just to scrap it, is not worth it (the cost of upgrade is always higher than the increase of scraps). It seems that at launch this was not the case, but was later patched.
Eggs scrap results are subject to a 40% bonus.

Level up[]
Super miners have levels. All of them can reach a maximum of level 10, except Diana who has a max level of 5. Upgrade costs do not depend on rarity.

---|---|---|
2 | 135 | 135 |

4 | 315 | 670 |
5 | 410 | 1080 |

Eggs[]
For the Egg Super Miners, who get experience for free, their requisites to level up are lowered the more experience they have (e.g. the Rare Egg, at half the way to lv2, costs only 67 souls). The current leveling up rate seems to be around 1 to 2 souls per hour, including timelapses, although this has been changed/hotfixed at least once since launch.
However, when scrapped, they don't give more scraps for being "almost up a level". Thus, when opening Ethereal chests (with the chance of getting a better Super Miner, requiring you to scrap one of the existing ones), it's possible that it's worth paying the cost to upgrade the egg before, if it's low enough, in case you need to scrap it. This is a modified version of the "scrap" table shown above, showing the increase in souls gained by scrapping. Thus, when your eggs are below this amount to next level, and you're going to open Ethereal chests, it's profitable to level them up beforehand. You cannot level them after you open the Ethereal Chest.
The Legendary egg gives more Souls on scrapping than you put on leveling it, even if you straight up level it to max. It's not much, however (a total gain of 77 souls).

Eggs[]
These Super Miners passively accumulate levels, increasing their scrap amount. You can have a maximum of 4 active. Once they reach max level, their sprite changes into a 'hatched' version of the egg.
Chests[]
These ones increase the rate of chests spawning, and can bypass the chest cap up to 2x.
[v0.44 change] Chest Spawning Super Miners now have a spawn cap of 2200% across all Super Miners (2 legendary level 10 orange fish). Anything over 2200% is instead converted to a reward multiplier on all chests. Of course there is still a benefit to having more than 2 legendary level 10 chest super miners.
Name | Icon | Rarity | Ability |
---|---|---|---|
Orange Fish | Legendary | Increases the chest spawns on 5 levels (its level and 2 above and below) by 630%-1110%

Mineral Deposits[]
[v0.44 change] The Mineral Deposit super miners were buffed by adjusting how mineral deposits spawn. Previously the spawn rate capped the amount that could spawn to 1 every 30 seconds. Multiple can now spawn per 30 second tick.

---|---|---|---|
Old King Coal | Legendary | Increases mineral deposit spawns by 80%-750% and increases the maximum number of mineral deposits in the world by 1-4.

Goldalf | Legendary | Every 141000 minerals mined by Goldalf grants a random reward
