Building Materials (BM) are items available from chests, excavations and caves. You can collect 1 Building Material from a regular chest, and 20 to 50 from a gold chest. Scientists can give 10BM (below 600km) and 2BM afterwards. But the main source, by far, are Caves (up to 10x BM per treasure, and multiple BM treasure spots per cave).
They are used on the Craft Center (Structures tab) for the upgrades to
- Top level structures: Trading post, Metal Detector, Manager, Chest Collector (storage and chance), Chest Compressor (conversion rate, duration, # of queues).
- Underground City: Oil Rig, Gem Forge
- Moon: Moon Trading Post
- Deep Moon: Buff Lab and Reactor
- Caves: Max drone Fuel, Fuel Regen

- After the update on 4th June 2021, Building Materials can also be collected from Scientists Excavations.
